Perfect Baby Shower

Even just a few years ago, baby shower were practically unheard of. Very popular in America, they were the reserve of the rich and famous, but not anymore! The good news is that baby showers can be as individual as you are. And they don’t need to cost the earth!

When to have it

Baby showers are usually held four to six weeks before the baby arrives. Late enough so that the pregnancy is well established, but early enough so that the baby is unlikely to arrive before the party!. Choose a date that gives your guests advance notice in case they need to arrange a babysitter or day off from work.

Where to have it

Depending on how many people you invite and how good you felt during your pregnancy. You could just have a nice relaxing afternoon meeting up with friends, or you could arrange for someone like a makeup artist, spray tan, or hairdresser to come and do some demos. Spas, game parties and dining out are also favorites, but don’t forget that pregnancy can put a strain on your body (how might you forget!). So you might want to consider avoiding a long evening or low-seat seating if you get tired.

Food and Beverages

Whether it’s a friend or a close relative who is organizing your baby shower, or you are trying it on your own, the important thing is that you have fun! If you’re planning your party at home, throw out plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers to keep everyone going. If you’re planning the party on someone else’s behalf, try to keep in mind the types of food they like, especially if they’re vegetarian or vegan.

Games

If party games are your thing, there are tons of fun ones for you to try. For example, if you’ve ever thought that canned baby food looks less like carrots or apple puree than it should be and more like a random mush, the Guess Baby Food game is definitely for you. To play, choose from seven to ten unique flavors of store-bought baby food, number each lid, and remove each label. Then invite your guests to start sampling! The guest with the sharpest taste buds wins an award for getting the most correct.

Or, if that sort of thing makes you feel slightly nauseous, you might want to try a new twist in Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Simply blow up a poster-sized photo of you standing with your pregnant belly in profile. Then blindfold each guest and give them a cropped image of a baby. After a few turns, each guest approaches the wall and nails the child to the mummy. Whoever comes closest to the belly wins.
